Bonus illustration Crystal Snails + Almanac + T-shirts
almost 2 years ago – Wed, Jun 22, 2022 at 05:11:32 PM

Hey folks,

it’s the end of the second campaign week and we’ve passed a new milestone: as of yesterday we’re over €6000! That’s super exciting! This is happening thanks to your support.

Today I’d love to share a new bonus illustration by Evlyn Moreau for you to experiment with coloring. It’s a crystal snail. Crystal Slugs folks and Snails inhabit the underworlds of the Skyrealms, where everything is made of living crystal, even flowers. The Crystal Slugs and the underworld realm are the theme of the adventure pamphlet written by Emiel Boven. I’ll tell you more about this in a further update, for now just enjoy the illustration! You can download the high res version here. As always, if you color it drop a comment or tag me on twitter or on instagram.

Skyrealms

Skyrealms has a modular structure. Each element, main book or accessory, can be used alone or with the rest of the game materials. The core idea behind Skyrealms is to provide tools for exploration. As you discover and read a new accessory, a new aspect of the world is revealed to you. All the creatures and elements of the Skyrealms are connected, though they are written in a way that leaves a lot of room for you to fill with your own imagination. The game accessories are available with all the reward tiers, in digital on physical format. They are: the Adventure Pamphlet, the Almanac, the Adventure cards, the Atlas, and the Card Deck.

The Almanac

The Almanac holds a very special place to me, its roots run deep into the memories of a cool childhood ritual.

When I was a kid I went back to Italy every summer at my grandmother’s house. At night, right before going to bed, we watched with excitement a short TV show called L’almanacco del giorno dopo, or The almanac of the next day. In just a few minutes it gave some info and trivia about the upcoming day: the Saint of day, a proverb, some odd celebration in a small mountain village, some historical fact, or the name of an important but forgotten person. The show had a medieval flute theme, and was filled with cool medieval illustrations. Watching it was like traveling in a magical past. It was a cozy ritual that closed the day.

The Skyrealms’ Almanac is inspired by this vintage show. Through various tables it provides the GM, or the solo player, with a series of random prompts that can spice up the exploration of the Skyrealms and give depth to the gaming experience. The contents of the tables are written and shaped to mimic those of a traditional Almanac. Here are some of the tables:

  • The proverb of the day: Rumors of the Skyrealms
  • Past and Present wars: Conflicts between factions
  • Weather forecast: Odd weather events
  • Stars and Moons: Nightly encounter and event table
  • Monuments: Natural and artificial landmarks

All the d6 and d66 tables can be used in a sequential order to mark the passing of seasons, or as regular random tables.

T-Shirts

Big news! We are going to make Skyrealms T-shirts, in two versions, pink and white, featuring the dreamy floating island created by Evlyn Moreau. We want the t-shirts to look and feel beautiful. That’s why we’d like them to be screen printed. Thanks to our partners we are in contact with a few specialized printing shops. We will get back to you very soon with more details. In the meantime, take a look at this mockup of the T-shirts. Aren’t they cool?

And again, Thank you

And again, thank you for backing the project, and for supporting it! In the past week we’ve seen a lot of support across various social media from our backers, it’s humbling and it meant a lot!

Bonus illustration - The She Goddess
almost 2 years ago – Sat, Jun 18, 2022 at 06:36:40 AM

Hey folks!

Yesterday I received this new drawing from Evlyn Moreau. It represents the She Goddess. This illustration is amazing and I’m super excited to use it in Skyrealms. Here’s a high-res version of it for you to download. If you do some coloring on it, I’d love to see what you come up with. Send me a pic or a link!

She Goddess

The She Goddess is one of the two major deities featured in Skyrealms. She’s beautiful and terrifying at the same time. She guards and protects the floating islands, but has quite a temper and she’s pretty angry with some of the Skyrealms folks: the Relichers, who are trying to resurrect a dead Cyclops.

The She Goddess is the protagonist of one of the two Adventure Cards. This card allows you to quickstart a short one-shot session with little preparation, providing the GM with random tables for starting location, encounters, antagonist and special objects all related to the She Goddess and the Relichers shenanigans. Will the adventurers be able to stop the She Goddess wrath? Let’s hope so!

The Adventure Cards are one of the accessories that accompany the main Skyrealms book, along with the Adventure pamphlet, the Almanac, the Atlas, and the Card Deck. I wanted Skyrealms to have a modular structure, and for each element, book or accessory, to be usable alone or in conjunction with the rest of the game. As you read, play or color, the setting and its secrets are revealed to you. The Skyrealms are a magical land, ever changing and by nature elusive. The book leaves a lot of room for you to fill with your own imagination.

Signal Boosting

If you backed Skyrealms, you’ll also love Beak, Feather, & Bone: Claw Atlas, a supplement for the collaborative world building tool and lightly competitive map-labeling RPG Beak, Feather and Bone. Claw Atlas mixes coloring and TTRPG in a GM-less style of gameplay that allows you to determine a map’s building purpose. Pick one of the 20 maps and build an emergent narrative city or world. Claw Atlas Kickstarter has 14 days left, be sure to check and back it, it pairs perfectly with Skyrealms!

Thank you

And again I cannot thank you enough for your support. We’re getting closer day by day to the campaign goal, hopefully we’ll reach it soon and unlock a few Stretch Goals. In the next update I’ll tell you more about the team, and about the Almanac, one of the Skyrealms accessories I’m the most excited about!

A free floating island

Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who has supported the campaign!

Just 24 hours have passed and I’m so grateful for the warm support I’ve received here, and across social media. I’ll do weekly updates on Kickstarter, to talk more about the project and the team and unveil some little behind the scenes. I have also planned some promo with cool partners, so keep an eye on Twitter - Instagram.

Whether you’re a harcore RPG player, an enthusiast of the indie scene, or someone who also enjoys drawing, coloring and paper crafts, there’s plenty for you in Skyrealms.

I’d love to know more about you. Do you draw? Do you do coloring? What techniques do you use? I love crayons. Are you planning to do some coloring with SKYREALMS too? Let me know in the comments!

And here’s a high-res image of one of the three Skyrealms, download it here. It’s free for you to use. Print it, color it, draw on it, and show us what you do.

Happy gaming and coloring!

Rainbow Island

Thank you!!!!
